Selecting The Rod Model

Smooth Dog

Smooth Dog at 6’5” is a medium light fast action rod. While this model is designated as a medium light I really feel it’s in between light and medium light. If the scope of our baits we throw is a 1/16oz jig head to a superspook this model has the perfect amount of versatility to perform all applications in the bottom half of our scope of baits whether it is a 1/8 oz jig head. spook jr., or a mirror lure soft-dine!

Wingman

Wingman at 6’2” is a medium power fast action rod. This power and action is reflected in more than one of Sarge Customs rod models at various lengthens for a reason. It works great with top water and suspending baits with enough versatility to still throw a soft plastic. This was the preferred rod of the late Captain Jesse Arsola. R.I.P. Capt. Jesse

Free Bird

Free Bird at 6’5” is a medium power fast action rod. Good for throwing top waters, Cookies, and all suspending baits. The Free Bird is not only a great option but might be the best option. Works well for pitching docks and getting into tight spaces chasing bass.

MaDeuce

MaDeuce at 6’9” or 6’5” is a Medium heavy power fast action rod. This rod model has a sturdy feel in hand with a rigidity throughout. It performs flawlessly using the bigger baits in your suspending bait and surface bait arsenal!

BOSS

Boss at 6’6”, 6’9”, 7’, 7’3” is built at all these lengths for many reasons. It is perfect for live bait to spinner baits to crank baits to topwater to fatboys, to Steve Brown broken backs and the occasional soft plastic. While the power changes in the shorter lengths the integrity of the action remains.

  • *At full length 7’3” it’s medium heavy extra fast action
  • * At 7’ medium heavy to medium power extra fast action
  • * At 6’9” medium to medium heavy power extra fast action
  • *At 6’6” medium power extra fast action

MOAR Medium Light

MOAR Medium Light at 6’9” or 7’ is a true medium light moderate power fast action blank. This is an all around rod. It is versatile and can perform multiple applications. It is built of the same blank as the Priest(SGT843). *All other Sarge Custom blank powers are based off this model. I find that many first time customers choose a Priest or MOAR Medium Light as their first rod.

MOAR LIGHT

MOAR LIGHT at 6’9” and 7’ is a medium light power with a moderate to slow action. This model has a bounce sensation to the feel rather than a whip. You can feel that bounce from the tip to the handle.

BOHICA

BOHICA at 6’9” and 7’ is medium light power moderate fast action
. The top 1/3 of this rod is soft in feel with an almost sensation of whip but not quite. There is a distinct beginning and end to the action in this rod as it transitions to a sturdy feeling backbone. The action also makes this a great option for throwing crank baits.

The Hassle

Hassle at 6’8” and 6’5” is medium light power with a fast to moderate fast action. There is a soft sensation of feel in the top section of this rod that transitions to a feel of moderation in the mid section. When asked what I use for throwing soft plastics I say The Hassle!

Chaos

Chaos at 6’8” and 6’5” is medium light power with fast to extra fast action. The Chaos has a light whip feel to just the tip section of the rod. You can easily feel it’s quick transition to the backbone of the rod.

Bouncing Betty

Bouncing Betty at 6’8” and 6’5” is Medium light to light power with a slow action. This rod model has a light whippy feel from the tip to the handle.

The Priest

Priest at 6’6” is a true medium light power fast action blank. This is also an all around rod. It is versatile and can perform multiple applications. It is built of the same blank as the MOAR Medium Light( SGT843). I find that many first time customers choose a Priest or MOAR Medium Light as their first rod.

MOAR MED

MOAR MED at 7’or 6’9” is a medium power action rod. The MOAR MED is perfect for throwing topwater, cookies, and suspending baits.

C Donkey

C Donkey at 7’6” is a medium heavy power moderate fast action rod. This model is great for crank baits, popping corks, and Big plugs.

As we move away from some of the more finesse rod models and get into models that span across more freshwater and light offshore, angler’s taste in the uses become more unfamiliar to me. What little I know about Bass fishing I have learned from my customers so there are still applications I’m learning about that there rods are used for.(Warthog, The Grunt, and the Water Dog)

Warthog

Warthog at 7’ or 7’6” is a heavy power fast action rod. Great for chasing big schools of Reds with big Spoons, giant swim baits or popping corks.

The Grunt

The Grunt at 7’ 7’6” is an extra heavy power extra fast action rod. This bad boy makes a great flipping stick or heavy football jigs or you can pitch to Ling offshore or jig for Snapper.

Water Dog

Water Dog at 8’ is a medium power moderate fast action rod. It Can be used for live bait, small crank baits and it feels like you could work soft plastics too.

While there is an outline or description for each rod model and some of the applications that are best at, they are by no means limited to these applications. I am learning from my customers everyday what they are using their rods for. I hope to continually provide that transparency through the descriptions of the rods. I am a lifelong inshore saltwater fisherman so I am limited in my personal knowledge of just what these rod models are capable of. Please keep helping me with your feedback and together we will help continue the growth fo our Sarge Customs Family!!
